Good evening! I hope everyone has had a great weekend. Ours was very busy. It started on Friday night where Wayne and I volunteered at bingo for the kids hockey. Volunteering for the kids hockey is great because not only is it a chance for Wayne and I to get out and be with other hockey parents, but for every bingo we volunteer, we get credited $80 per person towards the kids hockey fees for next year. Not bad, right! I really don't mind volunteering because I get exercise (I'm on my feet for five hours straight), the people that you meet are really nice (people who play bingo and people who work people), and its fun.
Saturday night, Wayne and I went to the community dinner and theatre. The event was held at Balgonie's Mulitplex Community Center. Wayne and I went last year and had fun. The food is delicious and the play is entertaining. This year we got tickets for Wayne's mom and dad to come with us. I think they enjoyed themselves, but my father inlaw was telling me at 9pm, that is was his bedtime. The play was just starting when he said this to me! Oh well...one late night won't be too bad for you! The play was called...actually I can't remember what the play was called...something about Love Potion #9 lol. It was good and we actually knew some of the actors.
Today was my brother's birthday. We went to my mom's house for supper and she made turkey! Yum! My mom had a frozen turkey from thanksgiving, but she wasn't able to cook it because my aunt decided to have Thanksgiving at her house. My mom made a feast of turkey, spaghetti and meat sauce (?), salads, stuffing with cranberries, and I made a black bean and corn salad. My little contribution to the feast that my mom prepared.
As you know, it snowed on Wednesday and I think the snow is here to stay.
Our dog, Maya was enjoying the fluffy white stuff...
Isn't she a silly puppy! Cannot keep her nose out of anything!
Well, now that there's snow on the ground, it can only mean one thing...Christmas! Yup, this weekend we put up our Christmas tree! Actually on the Winter side, it seems to be a competition each year, who can put up their tree first. We must have been not on the ball of things because everyone on the Winter side had their tree up already except for us. These people are NUTS!!! They've been known to put their tree up the day after Halloween. How crazy is that?
Anyways, while Wayne and Daniel were at Daniel's hockey practice, I went downstairs and brought the tree up. With some help by Josh and Andrew, we pushed some furniture around and got to work on the tree.
My camera doesn't do the tree justice. It really is a beautiful tree with white lights. My camera is old and I really need an upgrade, but it'll do for now. Maybe I should ask Santa for a better camera??? Hmmmmm...
I asked Josh and Andrew to pose in front of the tree. Posing means to me, standing still and smiling nicely for the camera. Here's what posing means to them...
I have to admit, my children are very cute and funny. At least they seem to like being with one another...right? They're actually showing love towards each other in these pictures and not fighting with each other. That makes me very happy.
Then I told the kids to pose in front of the tree that they decorated with their stockings and homemade Christmas decorations. Again, here's them posing their way...
And more of them posing their way...
I don't know if I can get a decent picture of them smiling nicely and being very good. I think I'm asking for the impossible.
Channa Masala
The other day, one of my friends posted a recipe for Channa Masala from the website ohsheglows.com I've never had Indian food and when I read what the ingrediants were, I wanted to try some. I didn't have all the spices that the recipe listed, so I had to improvise.
The recipe can be found here: http://ohsheglows.com/2010/11/10/daily-picture-feature-chana-masala/
This was a very good recipe. I added fresh mushrooms and lots of cilantro. I absolutely love cilantro! I've been experimenting a lot with chickpeas and this has got to be one of my favourite recipe for chickpeas. I know that this meal will be for dinner at least once a week!
Anyways, that's all I have for now. See you soon!!!
